Stars of the Week

By Andrea Elliott

TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams are pleased to announce the following student-athletes as the Stars of the Week, ending September 2nd.

Joycelynn Brar - Soccer - 2nd Year - Criminology
Brar had a solid game in the midfield in Ryerson's only match of the week. Brar was able to keep her opponents at bay defensively and helped the Rams offence mount several dangerous opportunities of their own. Brar registered two shots, including one on goal.

Elisa Lapadula - Soccer - 4th Year - Biomedical Science
A fourth year goalkeeper, Lapadula stood out in Sunday's game against Toronto, stopping a penalty kick in the 45th minute. Trailing 1-0 already, the stop kept the Rams within striking distance heading into the second half. Lapadula added two other saves in the game, and her 0.850 save percentage now ranks her sixth in the OUA.

Katherine Sollbach - Soccer - 4th Year - Nursing
The speedy fourth year player has wasted no time transitioning from defender to offensive catalyst down the wing and Sollbach led the Rams' offence on Sunday. One of Sollbach's four shots in the game against Toronto rang off the goal post, nearly tying the score. Sollbach now sits second on the team with nine shots this season.

Abdallah El-Chanti - Soccer - 3rd Year - Geographic Analysis
El-Chanti continued his torrid scoring pace this week, netting his sixth goal of the year on Wednesday against Trent before notching his seventh against Toronto on Sunday. El-Chanti has now scored in every game this season and leads all of Canada with those seven goals.

Ali Ghazanfari - Soccer - 3rd Year - Civil Engineering
Ghazanfari stood tall in goal for the Rams on Sunday, making seven saves en route to the team's fourth win of the year. The keeper played particularly well once Ryerson was limited to 10 men, after losing a player to a red card at the end of the first half. Ghazanfari now boasts a 0.857 save percentage, placing him third in the OUA.

Arya Hemati - Soccer - 3rd Year - Professional Communication
A set-piece specialist, Hemati scored his first goal of the season on Sunday with an exceptional free kick strike to give the Rams a two-goal lead. In the 57th minute, Hemati stood over the ball just outside the 18-yard box and drove the ball over the defensive wall and into the top right corner. The goal gave Ryerson some insurance to bring home the win over Toronto.

The Stars of the Week is an opportunity for several of our exceptional student-athletes to be recognized each week. Stay tuned for the release of our Athletes of the Week.
