Stars of the Week

By Andrea Elliott

TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams are pleased to announce the following student-athletes as the Stars of the Week, ending September 30th.

Female
Sierra Clancy - Soccer - 3rd Year - Arts & Contemporary Studies
Clancy scored her first goal of the season on Sunday, lifting the Rams to a 1-0 victory over RMC. The win was crucial to keeping the Rams' postseason hopes alive as they sit just three points out of a playoff spot.

Yuliia Romanenko - Cross Country - 3rd Year - Criminology
Competing at the Don Mills Open at Waterloo this weekend, Romanenko ran the 6km course in a time of 25:15 to place 25th. Her time was 1:32 faster than she ran the same race last year where she placed 53rd, showing how her training and hard work has started to pay dividends.

Jessica Sutton - Fastpitch - 1st Year - Business Management
Sutton played a pivotal role in helping the Rams fastpitch team clinch a playoff position this weekend. Needing two wins against York, Sutton led the offence with a home run, a triple, a double, two singles, and seven total RBIs in the two games. Sutton's performance helped the Rams to 9-2 and 13-1 victories, sending them back to the OIWFA playoffs.

Male
Mike Konstantopoulos - Cross Country - 4th Year - Aerospace Engineering
Konstantopoulos ran the 8km course at the Don Mills Open in Waterloo in a time of 27:36, good for a 17th place finish out of 70 competitors. The veteran led all Rams at the race and his 17th place finish is 10 places better than his result in last year's Don Mills Open.

Tanor Ngom - Basketball - 2nd Year - Arts & Contemporary Studies
Ngom turned in a pair of impressive performances when the Rams men's basketball team took part in Victoria's Guy Vetrie tournament this past weekend. Against the host Victoria Vikes, Ngom registered a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds plus four blocks. The night before, the 7-2 forward had 19 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks against Saskatchewan. He also added five points, two rebounds, and two blocks in just 15 minutes in the team's first game against Manitoba. The team went a perfect 3-0 at the tournament.

Nathaniel Tambakis - Soccer - 4th Year - Business Management
A strong two-way game on Saturday helps Tambakis land among the 3 Stars this week. After the Rams surrendered an early goal to Queen's, Tambakis and the rest of the Rams defenders were rock solid the rest of the way, allowing Ryerson to turn the score around for a 4-1 win. Tambakis also sent an impressive long ball over the Gaels defenders, springing teammate Isabella in for a break away which he converted.

The Stars of the Week is an opportunity for several of our exceptional student-athletes to be recognized each week. Stay tuned for the release of our Athletes of the Week.
