Cheverie named to U18 national team staff
CALGARY, Alta. - Hockey Canada announced on Tuesday that Rams assistant coach Kori Cheverie will be joining the coaching staff for the U18 women's national team during their selection camp and three-game series against the United States.
Cheverie will be an assistant with the Canadian squad, while Howie Draper from the University of Alberta will act as head coach.
Training camp begins August 6 in Calgary while the series against the USA runs August 16, 17, and 19. Cheverie and her colleagues will have to trim a training camp roster of 43 invitees down to one team to take on the USA.
Cheverie has been an assistant coach with the Rams since 2016 when she became the first female to be named a full-time assistant with a men's hockey program in U SPORTS history. Prior to her coaching career, Cheverie worked as a Skate Training Specialist, working with players and clients on stride mechanics and enhancing all around hockey skills.
The Canadian national women's development team is also going through training camp in Calgary this August. The team will take on a U SPORTS all-star team which includes former Rams captain, Ailish Forfar. Rams equipment manager Spencer Ure is also on site with the development team.
