Rams search for consistency on the road

By Cara Gilhula

TORONTO - After coming away from their 10-1 win against Waterloo at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, the Rams are looking forward to their end of the week road trip at the home of the Guelph Gryphons on October 11th, and the Varsity Blues on October 12th.

For the first time this season, the Rams are gearing up at the Gryphon Centre Arena on Thursday, October 11th for the Guelph Gryphons' OUA regular season opener. Puck drop is at 7:15 p.m.

Last season Ryerson went 2-1 against Guelph. Recently, U SPORTS released a new national ranking that shows the No. 7 Guelph Gryphons just ahead of the No. 8 Ryerson Rams.

Considering that the Gryphons are the reigning OUA West regular season champions, the Rams are sitting in a good place for Thursday’s matchup after a strong pre-season and a win for their season opener.

Head coach Johnny Duco says, “Guelph is a team that we have marked on the calendar. We are going to put Waterloo behind us and start gearing up for them now. We will inevitably have to go through them to get to where we want to go as they are one of the top teams in the West. So, it’s another great opportunity for us as we try to get better every day, and see who’s ready for Thursday night’s start.”

Since Ryerson is confident in the caliber of their line up, Guelph will continue to allow the Rams opportunities to step in and perform.

“Right now we have four lines that can all score and six defense that can play in all situations, meaning that right now it’s a luxury for us. So, as long as we can stay healthy and continue to compete and push ourselves, we will keep getting better, and reach our ultimate goal of the Queen’s Cup and nationals come playoff time,” says Duco.

On Friday, October 12th, the Rams will take on city rivals, the University of Toronto at Varsity Arena for their home opener. Game start will be at 7:00 p.m.

It will be a strong matchup for the Rams after going 2-1-1 against the University of Toronto last season.

This week the Rams are putting in the work to help them take advantage of their ice time.

“We don’t want them to get complacent. We want to keep the train moving,” says Duco.

Both games will be available on OUA.tv.
