TORONTO — In light of recent news surrounding the Ryerson Rams men's soccer team, the team is standing tall as they look to put the past in the past, and continue their dominant OUA play.
Last weekend, Ryerson reminded the OUA why they are one of the teams to beat, with statement victories over Carleton and UOIT, officially their first wins of the season.
This weekend, the Rams are looking at their toughest game to date. A meet up with their rivals, the Toronto Varsity Blues in the latest edition of the Downtown Toronto derby. The nation's sixth-ranked squad, the Varsity Blues stand tall over the OUA, boasting the best record in the conference, and an astoundingly low number of goals conceded, with just five goals against in their first eight matches.
If there was a time for the Rams to strike, it would be now. Toronto drew with Carleton last weekend 1-1 at home, so momentum should be in Ryerson's favour, following their 1-0 win to the very same Ravens.
Ryerson's Male Athlete of the Week, Praveen Ahilan, is coming off a solid ninety-minute performance for the clean sheet. He'll be required to be just as sharp this weekend, against the Varsity Blues' potent offence.
And as if Ryerson needed any more incentive, this is the two clubs' first rendezvous since last season's OUA Final Four, which for the third-straight year, saw the Rams finish without a medal and eliminated from Final 8 contention in back-to-back seasons.
It should be a fantastic atmosphere on Saturday, and we're excited to see all of the Rams fans who make the fifteen-minute subway trip for the 3:15 pm kick-off from Varsity Stadium. If you can't make it to the field, the game can be streamed live on OUA.tv.
