Mirza Custovic announced as men's soccer's first recruit
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams men’s soccer team is proud to announce Mirza Custovic as the team’s first commitment of the 2018 recruiting class.
Custovic, a striker from Toronto, Ont., has played in League1 with the North Toronto Nitros since 2016. Prior to his time with the Nitros, Custovic trained and competed with TFC Academy for two years.
“Mirza has played at a high level his whole life and comes to us from two great clubs in North Toronto and TFC Academy,” says Rams head coach Filip Prostran. “His ability to play within our system and fit within our culture will be his two greatest assets to our program. We are excited to have him join us this fall.”
While with TFC, Custovic faced off against high-level teams from across North America, a feat that he names as the highlight of his athletic career thus far.
“I got the taste of what a professional sports environment looks like,” says Custovic when recounting his experiences with TFC. “They also taught me how to perform at my highest level when I’m on the field, and how to behave off the field.”
A graduate of Forest Hill Collegiate Institute, Custovic was named as the school’s Athlete of the Year and the most valuable player on the rugby and soccer teams in 2018.
“I am a driven individual who fights for my goals on and off the field,” says Custovic. “When I set goals, nothing can stop me from achieving them. My ability to connect with other players makes me a great leader and learner.”
Custovic will enter Ryerson’s Geographic Analysis program in the fall, saying he chose Ryerson because of the amazing opportunities offered by the school’s academics and athletics department.
“Ryerson provides me with an amazing education that suits my learning style,” says Custovic.
