Rams head to Trent, U of T for first road games
TORONTO - Coming off a two win weekend to open the season, the Ryerson Rams men's soccer team will look to extend their winning ways when they travel to Peterborough on Wednesday night to take on the Trent Excalibur before making the short trip down the road to take on the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday afternoon.
Wednesday's matchup will be the series finale with the Trent Excalibur after the two squads just met on August 26th. Ryerson overmatched Trent in nearly every way, cruising to a 12-0 victory that set Rams scoring records in the process.
After their midweek trip to Peterborough, the Rams will turn their attention to their downtown rivals from the University of Toronto. After opening weekend, the Rams and Blues sit tied atop the OUA East with 2-0 records. Ryerson was recently ranked the No. 4 team in U SPORTS while Toronto ranks No. 10 in the country.
Sunday will be the first meeting between the two sides since Ryerson's penalty kick triumph in the OUA quarter-final that ended Toronto's season last October.
In the early stages of the 2018 campaign, Ryerson and Toronto have the most potent offences in the OUA, with Ryerson leading the way with 14 goals while the Varsity Blues have tallied seven. At the other end of the field, both teams have only surrendered one goal apiece; a stat that should be put to the test against the strong offences.
Ryerson's Abdallah El-Chanti was named the OUA Athlete of the Week after scoring five goals in two games last weekend and he will look to continue his hot streak into the upcoming games. Toronto's leading scorer so far in 2018 is Anthony Sousa with two markers.
Wednesday's game in Peterborough kicks off at 7:00 p.m. Game two of the week will kick off at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Varsity Stadium in Toronto. Follow us on Twitter for all the latest scores and updates.
