Rams remain undefeated with draw over Carleton
TORONTO - The much-anticipated clash between two top-five U SPORTS powerhouses ended in a scoreless draw, as the no. 4 Ryerson Rams and the no. 5 Carleton Ravens played to a 0-0 tie on Sunday evening at Downsview Park.
Both the Ravens and the Rams entered and left the matchup with an undefeated record. The top two OUA East teams battled for a full 90 minutes, and while both sides had several quality chances, neither team was able to capitalize on their opportunities.
The Ravens had the edge in the shot column, tallying 15 shots across 90 minutes. The Rams, on the other hand, totaled five shots in the match. Though the Ravens had an advantage in terms of opportunities, Ryerson goalkeeper Ali Ghazanfari (Stouffville, Ont.) held down the fort in his third clean sheet performance of the year.
“I did what I had to do — I did my job,” explains Ghazanfari. “At the end of the day, it’s the games at the end of the season that matter the most.”
Rams head coach Filip Prostran says the team’s halftime adjustments were impactful in the last 45 minutes of the match.
“I thought it was a game of two halves,” explains Prostran. “First half - they gave it to us. They were clearly better. In the second half, we made some adjustments and really piled on the pressure.”
Despite the draw against Carleton, the Rams improve to a 4-0-1 record and sit second in the division. Carleton, with one game in hand, holds the first place spot in the OUA East with 16 points and a 5-0-1 record.
The Rams return to action on September 15 as they take on the RMC Paladins in Kingston, Ontario.
