El-Chanti scores two in victory over RMC
TORONTO - Abdallah El-Chanti (Toronto, Ont.) continued his dominant streak on Sunday afternoon at Downsview Park, helping the Ryerson Rams to a 3-0 victory over the RMC Paladins in their final home game of September.
RMC goalkeeper Jonathan Ardell (Prince George, B.C.) made his presence known in the first few minutes of the game, making a key, one-on-one stop against Ryerson’s Raheem Rose (Toronto, Ont.) at the five-minute mark.
El-Chanti opened the scoring for the Rams just 20 minutes into the game, blasting a shot from the top of the box off a cross from Akibul Hoque (Toronto, Ont.). Ryerson carried their 1-0 lead into halftime.
Rose and El-Chanti combined for another crucial goal in the 58th minute, marking El-Chanti’s tenth goal of the season and the team’s second goal of the match.
Yuri Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) found the scoresheet for the Rams later in the second half, giving the Rams a 3-0 lead with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Costa’s 75th-minute goal was his first in the OUA.
The Rams walked away with a 3-0 victory, extending their unbeaten streak to 10 games on the year. Rookie goalkeeper Andrew Shahrivar (Toronto, Ont.) recorded the clean sheet for Ryerson.
“It definitely wasn’t an easy game,” says captain El-Chanti. “I’m glad we got the win and it was a big three points for us.”
Ryerson head coach Filip Prostran says the team is happy with their six-point weekend and will now shift their focus to next weekend’s road trip.
“Like always, our job is to get a bit better every game,” explains Prostran. “This week, we definitely improved in a few key areas.”
The Rams will be back in action next Saturday, October 6, as they face off against the Carleton Ravens in Ottawa.
