Rams fall 1-0 in OUA semifinal
OTTAWA, Ont. - Josh Kiselyov's goal midway through the second half was the only goal needed as the York Lions prevailed 1-0 in a defensive battle against the Ryerson Rams in OUA semifinal action at Carleton University.
In a scoreless first half, both teams had a few chances to open the score and while Ryerson had a better control coming from the back, York created the best opportunities of the half with five shots on goal against three for Ryerson.
After 65 minutes of battling in the middle of the field, the Lions scored the game winning goal. The Rams inability to clear the ball inside the six-yard box on a corner kick, created the opportunity for Kiselyov to dig the ball into the back of the net and score the goal that put York into the OUA final.
Ryerson's best chance in the second half came in stoppage time when an Arya Hemati cross made its way past the York defenders but was just out of the reach of Ryerson's Raheem Rose who was alone at the side of the net.
The Rams will try to capture their second consecutive OUA bronze medal on Saturday when they face the Western Mustangs. Game time is 1:00pm from Carleton University and can be seen on OUA.tv.
York will face Carleton in the championship game at 4:00pm.
