TORONTO - Canada's seventh-best men's university soccer program will look to build off their strong performances last week, as they roll into another weekend of OUA competition.
Their undefeated record will be put to the test in their first game of the weekend, Saturday afternoon against the Carleton Ravens — a team that always finds a way to make life difficult for the Rams.
Carleton is one of three teams in the OUA's East Division that remains undefeated, joining the Rams and Toronto Varsity Blues to comprise the division's elite. The Ravens, who received two votes in the latest round of Top 10 voting, will bring the nation's best goal differential — 27 goals for and just five against — to Downsview Park.
“In six or seven years being here, it’s the best Carleton team I’ve seen. Kwesi [Loney] has done an incredible job, and their staff, recruiting and implementing the way they want to play and act; they’re very very good," said Rams bench boss Filip Prostran ahead of the game. "We were fortunate to come out 3-3 in [the previous game]," added Prostran. "We need to look at the tape, we need to review, we need to get better. We need to give them something else to think about besides what we’ve shown them. [Tomorrow] is a big game. It’s the second time we’ll play them, and maybe the last time all year we’ll play them. So we’ve got to be at our best to be in a good position at the end.”
Lead by the St. Louis Bar and Grill Male Athlete of the Week,
The weekend won't get easier for the Rams, as on Sunday they will make the short trip across the GTA to Vaso's Field to go head-to-head with the UOIT Ridgebacks. Another team that Ryerson has seen recently, the Ridgebacks will be looking to win their home leg of the season series, following their 3-2 defeat to the Rams last weekend.
The Rams are 7-1 all-time against the Ridgebacks, with their last loss coming on October 15, 2014. They'll be looking to continue that winning streak, and stay undefeated in the OUA with two strong performances this weekend.
