Gemmill and Santos named Athletes of the Week

By Andrea Elliott

Salad King Athletes of the Week

The first Athlete of the Week is Mathew Santos (Toronto) of the men's hockey team. The second year forward poured in four goals this week, making him the new OUA leading goal scorer. Santos scored a hat trick on Friday as Ryerson defeated Laurier before adding a goal in the Rams' shootout loss the next night. Santos now has 23 goals to his name, setting a new Ryerson single-season record for most goals in a season.

Brooklyn Gemmill (Cambridge, Ont.) is our second Athlete of the Week. The second year forward made the most of her time in the team's only game this week, scoring a program record four goals and adding an assist. Gemmill is the first player in Rams history to score four goals in a game and to record five points. Gemmill's performance helped the Rams to a crucial 6-5 overtime win over their downtown rials. Her 19 points on the year now rank her sixth in the OUA.

Both student-athletes will receive a $20 gift certificate to Salad King.
