Oliver Wales to join Rams in August
TORONTO - Oliver Wales has been named as Ryerson’s second player commitment of the 2018-19 recruiting class, as announced by the team on Wednesday.
Wales, a local midfielder from Toronto, Ont., has played with the Markham Thunder for the past two years. A graduate of Brebeuf College School in North York, Wales captained his school’s soccer team and was named the most valuable player at the end of the 2017 season.
“Oliver joins us from Markham Soccer Club, who has a great reputation of sending players on to the next level,” says Rams head coach Filip Prostran. “Oliver is a dynamic two-way player who can play centrally and wide for us. His work rate, on-field IQ and ability to take direction, will serve him incredibly well over the next four years, and we look forward to the person and player he develops into.”
In the Ontario Youth Soccer League (OYSL), Wales and the Thunder dominated their way through the league, winning the championship in 2016 and following that up with a second-place finish in 2017.
“I consider myself an athlete with a positive attitude, always striving to improve,” says Wales. “Every day, I choose to work hard and I am not satisfied until success is achieved. I love the physical and mental discipline required in soccer.”
“I chose Ryerson because it offers everything I am looking for as a student-athlete,” continues Wales. “Having the privilege to be part of the Ryerson Rams soccer team has been an influential factor in choosing to attend Ryerson. I look forward to being part of the Ryerson Rams family!”
