KINGSTON, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams fastpitch team continued their early winning ways on Sunday, taking both games in a doubleheader against Queen's to open the season with a 4-0 record.
Ryerson University 13 - Queen’s University 6
In the opening game of a doubleheader, Ryerson Fastpitch swept past Queen's University 13-6. Abbigail Thompson lead the team with four hits, a single in the second, a double in the third, a double in the sixth, and a double in the seventh. Ryerson collected 15 hits and Queen's University had nine in the high-scoring affair.
Queen's took an early lead in the first inning, however, Ryerson knotted the game up at three in the top of the second inning. With two outs in the second inning Emma Carr drove in three runs when she homered.
Ryerson took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third Hayley Graham singled, driving in one run, Carly Forrester doubled, driving in one run, and Thompson doubled, driving in the third run of the inning. The team scored four runs in the sixth inning.
Thompson also earned the win, as she threw seven innings, giving up six runs, nine hits, and striking out six.
Ryerson University 5 - Queen’s University 1
In the second game, Ryerson Fastpitch completed the sweep by defeating Queen’s 5-1. Samantha Jackson earned the win for Ryerson, as she went seven innings, allowing one run, seven hits, striking out three, and walking zero.
Ryerson had nine hits in the game. Carly Forrester, Olivia Stelmachowicz, and Emma Carr each collected multiple hits for Ryerson. The team was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error to back the solid pitching performance by Jackson.
After opening weekend the Rams and their unblemished record are tied for first place with the Western Mustangs. The Rams are back in action this weekend when they travel to Ottawa to take on the Gee-Gees on September 15 and Carleton on the 16th.
