Rams finish 5th at OIWFA championship, two earn all-star nods
KITCHENER, Ont. - The Ryerson University fastpitch team played in their first OIWFA Championships in Kitchener over the weekend.
Ryerson fastpitch lost their first playoff game to the University of Toronto in a very close battle 3-1. The team was led by stellar pitching by Samantha Jackson.
In their second playoff game, Ryerson had a comeback win over Queen's University 7-4 for their first playoff win in history. Carly Forrester led the offensive push with three RBIs including a suicide squeeze bunt to score Emma Carr.
In the hunt for a top four placing, Ryerson faced Wilfrid Laurier University. Ryerson was trailing 2-1 in the fifth inning when the game got suspended due to rain. The game was continued the next day and although Ryerson was threatening with base runners in the final two innings, the Rams could not score the tying run which ended their season.
Prior to games beginning at the championship the OIWFA held the annual awards banquet where Carly Forrester and Emma Carr were both named All-Stars.
This season was a very successful one for the upstart second year team in the OIWFA which bodes well for their future.
