Rams baseball announce coaching staff additions

By Andrea Elliott

TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams baseball team is pleased to announce the following additions to the coaching staff for the coming 2018 season:

Sasha Gerster
Sasha has had two stints with the Western Mustangs, most recently as an integral part of their bullpen during their 2015 OUA Championship season, while he was completing his MBA.

Sasha was also a member of the 2011 Ilderton Sr. Baseball team which qualified for the Baseball Canada Championships. He has coached minor baseball across a number of different age groups in London, Ont.

Sasha also has playing experience in the infield and outfield. His versatility will be very beneficial for the Ryerson baseball program.

Kevin Bly
Kevin Bly is an incredibly experienced coach and talent evaluator. For a decade and a half he coached Leaside Baseball AAA teams, including winning a Midget provincial championship.

Kevin also spent six years as the Assistant Canadian Supervisor for the MLB Scouting Bureau. He has international baseball experience as well, serving as an instructor in the International Baseball Federation, World Baseball Fair, organized by Hank Aaron and Sadaharu Oh.

Currently, Kevin coaches the Muskoka Hornets 18U team. His wealth of baseball knowledge will be extremely valuable for the Ryerson baseball program.

Quinn Cumming
Cumming joins the coaching staff after an incredibly successful career as a player.

Cumming has been on the roster for every season of Ryerson baseball history, including the first ever team in 2013. He collected the first hit in Ryerson baseball history and later scored the first run in that game, a 4-3 win a home.

Cumming went on to be a strong and dependable starting pitcher for the Rams. He amassed over 125 innings pitched, including the 2015 season where he led the league in innings with 47 and posted a 2.93 ERA, finishing in the league's top five.

As a player Cumming was a team leader, and this will serve him and the team well as he steps into his new role.

The Rams open their 2018 season on September 8 when they host the Guelph Gryphons at 12:00 noon at Pan-Am Park in Ajax.
