Rana guides World Team to win at Nike Hoop Summit

PORTLAND, Oregon - Ryerson Rams men's basketball head coach Roy Rana won his fourth Nike Hoop Summit title as head coach of the World Selects team on April 13th in Portland. The World team emerged with an 89-76 victory over Team USA in the 21st Annual Nike Hoop Summit.

Rana has been the head coach for the World Selects for the past eight years and has posted a 4-4 record during that time.

The World Selects roster was comprised of 13 players from nine different countries to form a group of the top players aged 19 or under. Canada had three players on the roster; Andrew Nembhard, R.J. Barrett and Ignaz Brazdeikis. Barrett finished with a game-high 20 points, while adding nine rebounds, six assists and a World Team record five steals.

The Nike Hoop Summit pits America's top high school seniors against the best basketball players from around the world who are 19 years old or younger.

The all-time Nike Hoop Summit series now stands at 14-7 in the USA’s favour.

An incredible 203 former members of the USA or World Select Team have been drafted by NBA teams, including 13 players in the 2017 NBA Draft. And, as of Dec. 12, 2017, a remarkable 72 former U.S. players and 33 former World team members were active in the NBA. Additionally, 36 former Hoop Summit players competed on the collegiate level in 2017-18, including 23 U.S. players and 13 World Team athletes.
