Rams have one last mountain to climb to close regular season
TORONTO - While the Ryerson Rams prepare to celebrate the completion of a successful regular season, the closing weekend will be no walk in the park.
It all comes down to the final home stand of the season as the Rams host the Nipissing Lakers and Laurentian Voyageurs to close out the season. The matchups come off a successful three-game run which saw the Rams claim ownership of Toronto by defeating the University of Toronto Varsity Blues and York Lions. This past weekend, the fight continued as the Rams’ roster depth came alive and shut down a comeback attempt by the Queen’s Gaels to leave the last road trip unscathed.
The last time the Rams and Lakers met was a turning point in the season for Ryerson. A slow start to 2018 drew many questions about the team moving into the season half of the season. A win in Nipissing would silence critics as guards and team figureheads Manny Diressa (Toronto, Ont.) and Myles Charvis (Mississaga, Ont.) would post strong individual performances to set the team back to their winning ways. Welcoming the Lakers to the Mattamy Athletic Centre Friday night, the Rams look to complete the season sweep on the North Bay team.
The Laurentian Voyageurs pose a considerable challenge to the Rams, one they have spent the past month preparing for. A trip to the number two team in the OUA East’s home court back in January would see the Rams leave with their third consecutive loss to start the 2018 portion of the season. Now, tied for third in the standings and firing on all cylinders, the Rams will look to the season’s last great challenge as preparation for the OUA playoffs.
The Ryerson Rams will host the Nipissing Lakers Friday, February 16th at 8:00 p.m. ET and the Laurentian Voyageurs Saturday, February 17th at 8:00 p.m. ET at the Mattamy Athletic Centre for the last regular season home games of the 2017-18 season. Saturday marks Senior Night where the Rams will pay tribute to their outgoing senior players and the impact they have had on the program.
