Adika Peter-McNeilly inks second pro deal in Germany
TORONTO - Ryerson men’s basketball alumnus Adika Peter-McNeilly has signed his second professional contract in Germany’s Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), inking a one-year deal with Mitteldeutscher BC.
Peter-McNeilly signed his first pro deal in July 2017 with the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg of Basketball Bundesliga. In 35 games, Peter-McNeilly averaged 7.8 points in 22:34 minutes per game while shooting 37% from the field. He added 32 steals, 58 assists and 91 rebounds in that timespan.
Peter-McNeilly’s MHP were eliminated in the semifinals of the 2018 BBL playoffs and later notched a fourth-place finish in Europe’s Basketball Champions League.
Peter-McNeilly’s newest contract was announced by Mitteldeutscher on July 12, 2018.
MBC head coach Aleksandar Scepanovic had this to say about the signing: "Adika comes from one of the best German teams. In his rookie season in Germany, he was able to contribute solidly to the success of Ludwigsburg. [...] For (North) American basketball players starting their professional careers in Europe, it can be difficult to find their way around at first because the systems can vary greatly. Adika has shown, however, that he has come in well and can now benefit from his experience in the BBL and the Champions League."
Prior to his experience in Germany, Peter-McNeilly spent the entirety of his four-year OUA career with the Rams. In his final season at Ryerson (2016-17), he was named a U SPORTS First-Team All-Canadian, an OUA First-Team All-Star and Ryerson’s Male Athlete of the Year.
MBC is set to open up their regular season campaign on the weekend of September 28, 2018. You can stay updated with Peter-McNeilly’s journey in Germany by following Mitteldeutscher BC on Twitter and Instagram (@mbcwoelfe).
