Diressa signs first pro contract in Serbia
TORONTO – All-Canadian guard Ammanuel Diressa has officially signed his first professional contract, committing to KK FMP based in Belgrade, Serbia on a three-year deal.
The KK FMP Panthers are one of 12 teams in the Adriatic League (ABA) that includes clubs from Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Slovenia. Last season KK FMP finished eighth in the standings with a 9-13 record.
The Panthers also play in the Basketball League of Serbia, run by the country’s basketball governing body. The team has been the league runners up for the past two seasons.
Diressa spent three seasons with the Rams where he accumulated 1,002 career regular season points, was a three-time OUA All-Star, a U SPORTS All-Canadian, a two-time OUA Wilson Cup champion, a three-time medalist at the U SPORTS Final 8 national championship, and was Ryerson’s male athlete of the year in 2017-18.
“We are extremely proud to witness another one of our young men develop into a pro,” said Ryerson head coach, Roy Rana. “Manny will begin his career in an historic program which has developed its own share of high level professionals. The Adriatic League is one of the better leagues in Europe and he will be part of an incredibly passionate basketball community in Belgrade, Serbia. This is a great day for our Ryerson community.”
In addition to his success as a Ram, Diressa has represented his country as part of the Canada Basketball senior men’s national team and was invited to an NBA free agent camp with the Utah Jazz earlier this summer.
Diressa and the KK FMP Panthers begin the 2018-19 season at the end of September. Stay up to date on Diressa’s new squad by following @BCFMP on Twitter.
