Rams land SNHU transfer Jalen Butler
TORONTO — Ryerson Rams men’s basketball announced Tuesday the addition of Southern New Hampshire University transfer Jalen Butler to the team’s 2019-20 recruiting class.
A point guard from Scarborough, Ont., Butler joins the Rams after playing NCAA Division II basketball with the SNHU Penmen for the last two years.
“We are excited to welcome Jalen Butler to the Rams,” says Ryerson head coach Borko Popic. “He plays with great energy and a competitive spirit. His skill set combined with his physicality is a unique addition to our team.”
Butler made 10 appearances for the Penmen last season, averaging 1.4 points in eight minutes per game.
As an athlete, Butler self-describes as a hard worker and a leader both on and off the court.
“I am outspoken, I communicate well, and most importantly, I work hard,” says Butler. “I am all about culture, creating an environment that is comfortable for my teammates and coaches so that we can call each other family.”
Butler attended Tilton preparatory school in New Hampshire in his senior year of high school. He also attended the Kiski School in New England in 2015 and Toronto’s Upper Canada College in 2014.
Butler will return home to Toronto this fall, set to enter Ryerson’s Graphic Communications Management program in September. He says he chose to attend Ryerson because the men’s basketball program is an incredible fit for him as both an athlete and a student.
“I chose Ryerson because they play on the biggest stage in Canada,” says Butler. “Touted as the best team in the country, the program has continued its dominance over the years. Everything that the Ryerson men’s basketball team embodies and produces matches up with my goals and expectations for myself and my future.”
