TORONTO - After completing her final year of university eligibility with the Ryerson Rams women's basketball team this past season, guard Kellie Ring (Ottawa, Ont.) has been invited to attend the Canadian Senior Women's National Team (SWNT) Assessment Camp in Edmonton.

Ring attended an open tryout held at the Mattamy Athletic Centre on Wednesday, May 10 and it was announced Thursday that she had received the invitation to the next phase.

The assessment camp runs May 12-22 in Edmonton before a team is named to travel to participate in an exhibition tour in Spain and France.

Ring was named an OUA First-Team All-Star for the third time in her five-year career this season. Ring was the OUA and U SPORTS (then CIS) Rookie of the Year back in the 2011-12 season.

The Ottawa native has national team experience already on her resume having played on the Canadian U16 Cadette team in 2009 and 2010, the U18 Junior team in 2010 and the U19 Junior team in 2011, as well as playing on the squad at the Pan American Games in 2011 and then the Development team in 2012.

Ring is one of just two players named to the 33-person assessment camp list that played in U SPORTS this past season. McGill's Alex Kiss-Rusk is the other. Fellow Rams alumni Mariah Nunes as well as current players Emma Fraser and Bronwyn Williams also attended the open tryout on May 10 but did not qualify for the next phase.

Other Rams personnel present at the camp is head coach Carly Clarke, helping assess talent, as well as athletic therapist Michelle Bell.
