Rams begin 2018 with doubleheader in Ottawa
TORONTO – What better way to celebrate the first weekend of the new year than with a pair of Rams basketball games in our nation's capital. On Friday night, the Ryerson women’s basketball team will make the trip up to Ottawa to first play against the Carleton Ravens on Friday night, followed by a trip across town to play the University of Ottawa on Saturday.
This weekend will test the Rams ability to the greatest degree, as they begin their road trip against the presently undefeated Carleton Ravens. The Ravens presently posses the OUA’s premier combination of offense and defense, topping the league in points per game, while routinely holding opponents to under fifty points per contest. However, Carleton is going to have to deal with a Rams team who is hot off of a seven-game regular season winning streak.
The Rams, however, will not be able to rely upon their normal advantage of size in the post against the Ravens, as Carleton possesses a large post presence in the form of fifth-year forward Heather Lindsay (Ottawa, Ont.) who may be able to provide a real challenge to Rams all-star Sofia Paska (Etobicoke, Ont.).
Following their game against the Ravens, the Rams will travel across town to face off against the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees. The Gee-Gees have struggled thus far this season, acquiring a record of 5-5, while struggling on the offensive end. Ottawa has struggled on offensive conversion, while simultaneously failing to prevent opposing teams from running up the scoreboard on them. Paired up against one of the best offensive teams in the league in the form of the Rams, the Gee-Gees may have tremendous difficulties in capturing an upset victory.
Fans of the Rams can catch all of the weekend action live on OUA.tv, at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and live updates can be found by following the Ryerson Rams on twitter @ryersonrams.
