#TheJourneyTo... Rams anticipating Gold Rush match
TORONTO — The No. 3 Ryerson Rams are hoping for yet another undefeated two-game homestand this weekend as they host the Laurentian Voyageurs on Friday and the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.
Last weekend, the Rams saw significant success on their first road trip of the new semester. The team outscored their opponents 150-112 across two games and will be hoping to replicate similar results this weekend at home.
Sofia Paska’s (Etobicoke, Ont.) 17-rebound performance last weekend saw the fifth-year forward improve her season-long statistics; with 8.1 rebounds per game, Paska now ranks fourth in the OUA. Bronwyn Williams (Toronto, Ont.) sits steadily ranked second in the league with a 53.5 field goal percentage (53-99), and Jama Bin-Edward (Waterloo, Ont.) sits fourth in the league with 17 steals on the year.
The Rams, set to host Laurentian and Nipissing this weekend, will look to improve their record with a mere nine games remaining in the OUA’s regular season.
Friday evening’s matchup against Laurentian marks the Rams’ annual Gold Rush and Shoot For The Cure game. This year, the Rams will host the Voyageurs in what’s shaping up to be a great matchup.
The Voyageurs, making the trip to Toronto to face the Rams on Friday, boast a 5-9 record on the season and currently sit sixth in the OUA East. Laurentian’s most impressive win of the year came just last weekend against the Carleton Ravens as the Voyageurs fought their way to a 69-66 victory over the seventh-ranked team in the country. Laurentian will certainly be looking to upset the Rams in a similar fashion this weekend.
Saturday’s game against Nipissing could potentially be a difficult matchup for the Rams as well. The Lakers, sitting second last in the division with a 3-11 record, have shown signs of promise throughout the season. Two recent yet crucial victories against the York Lions and the Queen’s Gaels only further the sentiment. The Rams will need to stick to the game plan on both Friday and Saturday night if they hope to pull out back-to-back wins on the weekend.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Friday and Saturday. Fans attending Friday night’s Gold Rush matchup against Laurentian are encouraged to arrive early to secure the evening’s giveaway — a gold Ryerson Rams rally towel. Tickets for Friday’s game can be purchased here.
Fans are encouraged to support the team's Shoot For The Cure campaign. Three players — Cara Tiemens, Bronwyn Williams, and Emma Fraser — will be cutting their hair at halftime of the men's game (tipoff following the conclusion of the women's game). Donations can be made here.
