Rams sail through Lakers with 36-point victory
NORTH BAY — The Ryerson Rams found themselves dominating yet another matchup on the road, taking an 80-44 victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Friday night in North Bay.
Leading the offensive charge for Ryerson was fifth-year forward Sofia Paska (Etobicoke, Ont.), who recorded the only double-double of the game with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Five different Rams recorded 10 or more points in the game.
The Rams came out strong in the first quarter and maintained their high-scoring pace throughout the game. A 22-11 lead after 10 meant the team was executing well, and Ryerson would continue to come at the Lakers from all ends throughout the remaining three quarters.
Nipissing found themselves struggling to put up points in the second quarter, scoring only nine and allowing the Rams to extend their lead to 42-20 at the half. Ryerson would shoot 44% (4-9) from beyond the arc through the first two quarters, led by Rams guard Hayley Robertson (Toronto, Ont.) who went 2-2 from three in that timespan.
Third-year guard Latifah Roach (Montreal, Que.) racked up the most playing time for the Rams in the second half, totalling 7 points in 13 minutes on the court. Nipissing scored a game-high 16 points in the third quarter but Ryerson still led 65-36 heading into the fourth.
Production slowed in the last quarter of the game, but the Rams still managed to outscore the Lakers 15-8 and finished the game with an 80-44 victory.
Among the leading point-getters for Ryerson were Roach with 11, Robertson with 11, Marin Scotten (Ottawa, Ont.) with 11, and Emma Fraser (Toronto, Ont.) with 10.
The Rams will take on the Laurentian Voyageurs Saturday night in Sudbury, tipping off at 6:00 p.m. at the Ben F. Avery Gymnasium.
