TORONTO – It’s time, once again, to kick off the women’s basketball season. The relationship between Ryerson and its basketball teams is almost indescribable, as they have contributed to catapulting Ryerson athletics upon the national scene and have brought tremendous bouts of pride to Ryerson students.

This past season was no exception. The Rams culminated a 13-6 record throughout the regular season, and made it to the OUA quarter-final until, unfortunately, their dreams of repeating their gold medal performance from the 2015-2016 season was cut short by the Windsor Lancers. This premature conclusion to an otherwise incredibly successful season has only furthered the determination of the Rams, as they seek to push back to the top of the OUA podium.

To start off of their new season, the Rams will travel to Sault Ste. Marie to go up against the Algoma Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds, who only joined the OUA in the 2013-2014 season, have traditionally been in the basement of the OUA’s West division (now under the all-encompassing Western Conference), and have yet to beat the Rams in a match-up. However, to chalk up this match-up as a sure win would be a mistake for the visiting Rams. Recent additions to the Thunderbirds line-up, including Darryn Lindquist (Markham, Ont.) and Sawyer Fischer (Wallaceburg, Ont.) add life to an Algoma backcourt that was in desperate need of resuscitation.

The Rams, themselves, have had an incredibly successful pre-season. While attending the Memorial Tournament in St. John’s, Newfoundland, the Rams recorded three wins against the likes of Winnipeg, Memorial, and the University of Alberta. Additionally, at the Darcel Wright Memorial Classic hosted at the Mattamy, the Rams accumulated a record of 2-1, falling only to the McMaster Marauders. These are all healthy signs for a victorious season to come.

Fans of Ryerson’s women’s basketball team will be able to catch the action live on OUA.tv and by following the Ryerson Rams on twitter @ryersonrams.
