TORONTO – Ryerson University’s Department of Athletics is excited to appoint Natalie Bukovec as the new interim head coach of the Ryerson Rams women’s soccer program.

Bukovec becomes the tenth coach in program history to lead the team and will take over the reigns after serving as an assistant coach with the Rams for the past two seasons.

“I am extremely honoured to be able to continue my coaching career with the Ryerson Rams,” said Bukovec. “I’m grateful to have worked under the support and mentorship of the Ramily since 2016 and am looking forward to the upcoming season with what I know to be a group of dedicated and strong young women.”

“We are proud to have Natalie in place to lead our women’s soccer program,” said interim Director of Athletics, Jeff Giles. “Natalie combines the understanding of being a former U SPORTS player as well as being a coach which should lend valuable experience to our program. Her vision and approach will help our student-athletes succeed not only on the field, but in the classroom and community as well.”

Bukovec played five seasons at McMaster University from 2010-15 and received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, specializing in Social Psychology, and a Certificate in Leadership and Organization. She is currently working to obtain a Master’s in Coaching and Sport Performance.

After her university career, Bukovec played in semi-professional leagues in North America such as League 1 and W-League and has been a member of the Croatian women’s national team player pool.

Bukovec’s coaching career began in 2015 as an assistant coach at McMaster before joining Ryerson’s team in 2016. She is working towards a Canadian National B Licence.

Currently coaching club soccer at Toronto High Park FC, Bukovec was one of five female coaches selected across Ontario to be a part of the Ontario Female Mentorship Program run by the Canadian Soccer Association.

Ryerson’s women’s soccer team opens their 2018 regular season on August 25th when they host the UOIT Ridgebacks at Downsview Park.
