Rams search for inspiration against Gee-Gees, Ravens
TORONTO - After a tough battle against the University of Toronto last week, the Ryerson Rams women's soccer team is in need of a push before facing the OUA East leading Ottawa Gee-Gees on September 8th and the Carleton Ravens on September 9th.
The inspiration for the Rams this weekend could result from their 2016 season, where they beat Ottawa for the first time in nine years. This was valuable redemption for the Ryerson Rams because it was proof they were able to contend against such a consistent team.
The Rams will also be looking to senior goalkeeper Elisa Lapadula (Brampton, Ont.) who was recently named one of Ryerson’s Athletes of the Week. Lapadula is ranked sixth in the OUA with a save percentage of 0.850. Lapadula’s confidence in net will provide a stable base for the Rams’ defensive strategy going forward against Ottawa who is ranked first in shots on net.
On Sunday, the Rams who are ranked sixth in shots, should dominate offensively if they keep up the pressure on the net versus the Ravens who are ranked 17th in shots. This match will be a great opportunity for the offensive Ryerson Rams Stars of the Week Katherine Sollbach (Burlington, Ont.), and Joycelynn Brar (Mississauga, Ont.) to maintain control and accuracy throughout the game.
Last season the Rams were 0-2 against the Gee-Gees and 2-0 against the Ravens. The Rams are currently 1-1-1 this season. In hopes of being a strong contender in this year’s playoffs, it would be a great confidence boost for the Rams to come out of this weekend with wins against both Ottawa and Carleton.
The opportunity for the Rams to defeat the clubs from Canada’s capital and redeem themselves again all goes down this weekend. Both games will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at Downsview Park. For live updates follow us on Twitter and Instagram.
