Rams host September weekend showdown
TORONTO - It seems that fall is among us, and the Ryerson Rams women's soccer team is ready for the final weekend of September soccer. The showdown will kickoff on Saturday when the Rams host the Queen’s Gaels, and the RMC Paladins on Sunday, at Downsview Park.
It could be considered an upset if Ryerson walked away with the win on their home field. With this being their first match of the season versus the Gaels, the Rams can only compare their potential to past matchups. Hopefully the Rams will come out against Queen’s like their last game when they met in October, 2017. The Rams lost 1-0, with four shots on net, compared to Queen’s five. The Rams had a strong showing for that game, by contending well, and generating similar opportunities. In order to take down Queen’s on Saturday, the Rams will have to deliver a strong offensive and defensive line up.
The Rams are hopeful for a successful September finale on Sunday versus the RMC Paladins. This game holds opportunity for a confidence boost since RMC is currently sitting last in the OUA East standings at 0-7-1. Last season between their two meetings, Ryerson had 34 shots compared to RMC’s total of three, earning the Rams two wins.
Overall, it’s been a long month for the Rams with four ties and three losses, adding to their total of 1-3-5 since August. After walking away with two ties last weekend versus Nipissing and Laurentian, bringing their streak to three draws, the Rams are determined for a win.
After this weekend, there will only be five games left of the regular season. It will be valuable for the Rams to use their roster and provide opportunities to each member of the team, in hopes to create more chances. This was seen last Saturday against Nipissing, where Rams midfielder Anastasia Grekos (Toronto) scored her first OUA goal, helping the Rams earn a point after a 2-2 comeback.
The Rams will take on Queen’s and RMC at Downsview Park on Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30 at 2:30 p.m. For live updates, follow us on Twitter and Instagram.
