Crucial cross-town matchup looming for Rams
TORONTO - With only three games remaining in the regular season, the Ryerson Rams will be put to the test this weekend as they look to walk away with a crucial victory against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
Last weekend the Rams headed east to take on the uOttawa Gee-Gees and the Carleton Ravens. Two disappointing back-to-back losses left the team stagnant in the OUA standings, and the Rams will hope to get things back on track this weekend against Toronto.
With a 2-6-5 record on the year, the Rams currently sit four points back of the final playoff spot. In that highly coveted, sixth-seed playoff spot sits none other than Ryerson’s cross-town rivals and upcoming opponents, the Varsity Blues.
Walking away from the matchup with three points would be a huge feat for the Rams, who still have a shot of stealing the final playoff berth. A dominant offensive performance would give Ryerson the edge in the matchup, but the team has struggled to score goals this season and will need to overcome their offensive woes if they want to reign victorious against Toronto.
Earlier this season, the Varsity Blues took a 2-0 victory over the Rams at Varsity Stadium. This time, Ryerson is set to host the matchup at Downsview Park on Saturday, October 13.
With a 0-4-2 away record, Toronto has yet to earn a win on the road this season. The same holds true for the Rams, who have tallied each of their two victories at Downsview Park.
Toronto’s Natasha Klasios (Unionville, Ont.) has been a key contributor for the Varsity Blues this season, tallying four goals and one assist and leading her team in points. On the other side of the matchup, Ryerson’s Anastasia Grekos (Toronto, Ont.) leads the Rams with two goals on the year.
The matchup is set to begin on Saturday, October 13 at 5:30 p.m. at Downsview Park. It will also be #ThinkPink day at the field. To stay up-to-date with this weekend’s results, be sure to follow the Ryerson Rams on Twitter.
