Rams looking for final push to close out season
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams are looking for two back-to-back wins this weekend as they fight for their playoff lives in their final regular-season games against the Laurentian Voyageurs and the Nipissing Lakers.
The current playoff picture is complicated; the Rams will need to earn six points via two regulation wins this weekend in order to bypass the current fifth- and sixth-seeds in the Laurentian Voyageurs and the Toronto Varsity Blues.
Last weekend, the Rams played to a 1-1 draw against Toronto, further complicating the postseason situation. Now, Ryerson will turn their attention to this weekend’s final matchups against the Voyageurs and the Lakers for one last push in the standings.
Laurentian, Ryerson’s closest opponent, has been riding a hot streak as of late; they’re 2-0-1 in their last three games. Currently tied for sixth in the division with a 4-6-4 record, the Voyageurs will also be fighting for their postseason lives this weekend.
Nipissing, on the other hand, is third in the division with a 7-3-4 record. The Lakers have also found success recently; the team will be looking to extend their 7-game point streak into the final weekend of the OUA season.
The Rams have tied both Laurentian and Nipissing this season, so the mission at hand isn’t totally unattainable. Though, several pieces will need to fall into place in order for the Rams to overtake the sixth-seed position: Ryerson would need to win both games this weekend, primarily. The Voyageurs and the Varsity Blues, competing on Sunday, would need to play to a draw. Finally, Toronto would need to lose to Nipissing in their match on Saturday.
The journey to the OUA postseason presents some tough matchups, but the Rams are ready and willing to take on the challenge.
