The Ryerson Rams started their Canadian College Cricket summer league with a comprehensive win over Waterloo Warriors at the King City cricket ground.
The Rams won the toss and elected to field first on a moist pitch and got into the groove straightaway. The Warriors put up a good opening partnership of 30 runs in 6 overs, but it was more of a sedate start rather than aggressive. The Rams bowlers kept their discipline and were rewarded with regular breakthroughs throughout the innings. Waterloo was restricted to 121 for the loss of 7 wickets, Adeel Akhtar top scoring with 35. For the Rams, Gayan Ferdinands and Hassan Khan took 2 wickets each.
The Rams then steamrolled with ease towards the victory target. Hassan Khan and Viplav Naik put up a 69 run opening stand to get off to a flying start. Rams lost 3 wickets but Hassan Khan's excellent 58 made sure that Rams chased down the target with ease. The resounding victory in their opening match showed exactly why Rams were crowned the North American Champions in Florida earlier this year.
The Rams will be taking on UOIT next on June 10th, 2017.
