OSHAWA, Ont. - The Ryerson badminton team opened their 2017 schedule this past Sunday when they traveled to Oshawa to take on the UOIT Ridgebacks in exhibition competition.

The two teams previously played each other at Ryerson's Kerr Hall back on November 20 with the Rams sweeping the series, 10-0.

A few more events were added this time around to give more athletes some exposure before the Rams host the Ryerson Open this coming weekend. Ryerson won Sunday's competition 10-4.

In women's singles, Ryerson's Alison Chiu and Nikki Wong each defeated their opponents 2-0.

UOIT took two of the three men's singles matches as Angus Finnigan and Kevin Cui both fell 2-0 while Brian Tang rebounded from a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1.

In women's doubles, Nikki Wong and Amanda Law scored a 2-0 win as did the pairing of Allison Chiu and Bernita Ng. Nikki Yin and Megan Pon dropped their doubles match.

Ryerson swept the men's doubles division with Liam O'Toole and Jye Duong, Angus Finnigan and Kevin Cui, and Allan Zhu and Brian Tang all winning their matches 2-0.

In mixed doubles, the Rams went 2-1 with partners Liam O'Toole and Nikki Yin and Allan Zhu and Bernita Ng both scoring victories. The duo of Jye Duong and Amanda Law dropped a close decision.

The Rams will now host the Ryerson Open on January 15 at Kerr Hall.
