KINGSTON, Ont. - Marcena Lau (Markham, Ont.) won the women's individual gold medal in the foil event at the OUA championship this past weekend.

Lau becomes just the second Ram to win the event and the first in 22 years.

Lau also led the Rams foil team to the bronze medal match but Ryerson fell short to Western for the medal.

Other individual results include a 13th place finish in foil for Sukie Ma, while Agnes Lee and Michelle Lee finished 29th and 30th, respectively.

In the epee discipline, Ryerson's top finisher was Amalia Tadevosyan who placed 7th. Chuhan Lin finished 13th, Angelique Barnabe placed 28th, and Cassandra Ferworn rounded out the Rams results in 37th. The team of four finished sixth in the team competition on Sunday.

In sabre, Milena Oliva was the top Ram, finishing in 19th, while Adrianna Wojtis was close behind in 23rd. Sara Jahanzad finished 35th and Kaitlyn Hundt was 38th. The team of four finished ninth in the team competition.

Overall the Rams women's fencing team accumulated 118 total points to finish 7th overall, improving on their ninth place finish from a year ago.
