Figure skating wins second straight team bronze
GUELPH, Ont. – The Ryerson Rams figure skating team had a successful showing at the 2015 OUA Figure Skating Championships held February 17-18 in Guelph, bringing home their second consecutive team bronze medal.
The Rams won two gold medals, one silver and three bronze throughout the competition and accumulated 57 total points to earn the overall team bronze medal.
After day one, Ryerson sat in fifth position but two gold medal performances and the team’s best ever synchro finish propelled the team into a podium position.
Veterans Christina Pulla (Whitby, Ont.) and Lisa Makeeva (Toronto) both struck gold in their individual events. Makeeva then partnered with Korie Paquette (Amherstburg, Ont.) to claim silver in the Senior Similar Pairs competition.
Karen Urquhart (Toronto) and Julia Withers (Kenora, Ont.) paired up for a bronze medal finish in the Gold Creative Dance event and the freshman duo of Sawyer Buchanan (Toronto) and Lisa Casselman (Ottawa, Ont.) won bronze in the Senior Silver Similar Dance.
In the final event, the Rams synchro team earned a bronze medal which helped them edge out McMaster by one point for the overall bronze medal.
Pulla and Makeeva were named OUA All-Stars for winning their events.
