TORONTO - After their first loss of the season last Saturday, the Ryerson Rams will be put to the test this weekend amidst matchups against two of the OUA’s most challenging teams.

The Rams will remain at home for their two weekend matchups.  Friday morning, Ryerson will play host to the Brock Badgers in a school-day game at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, while Saturday presents a rematch against the Western Mustangs, the team the Rams struggled against just one short week ago.

Though Ryerson put up a good fight last Saturday, the Mustangs reigned supreme through three periods of play.  The matchup was close, but their efforts weren’t enough to see them past Western.

The Rams will take on the Brock Badgers for the first time this season on Friday, November 3rd at 11:30 am in what looks to be one of Ryerson’s most equally-matched games of the season. The Badgers have the same record as Ryerson through their first four games of the season (3-1-0), their only loss coming off a 2-0 defeat against the Queen’s Gaels to open the season.  Their most notable victory of the season came against the Mustangs last Friday, as the Badgers pushed past Western by a final score of 2-1 in the shootout.

The Badgers excel on special teams play, and the Rams will need to be aware of both their league-best powerplay and penalty-kill.  As mentioned, Brock currently holds the best powerplay in the OUA, sitting at a 33.3%.   Ryerson sits just behind Brock, second in the OUA, with a 31.8% PP.  On the penalty kill, the Badgers also top the OUA with a 94.7% PK percentage.  Looking ahead to the school day game Friday, the Rams will need to be on top of their game, both in even strength and special teams play, to come out of the Badgers matchup with a win.

Looking to Saturday evening, the Western Mustangs will come to town for a rematch of last week’s game.  The Mustangs only have one overtime loss on the season, but are otherwise undefeated in regulation through four games this year.  The Rams will be in for another tough matchup in this game, and will need to improve on their goal-scoring ability in order to put themselves in a position to win.
