Rams look to open second semester on winning note
TORONTO - After a relatively successful 2017 half of the season, the Ryerson Rams look to open up second semester with two wins against two struggling teams.
Ryerson went 3-3-4-2 through 15 games in first semester, ending the year sitting in eighth place in the OUA. The playoff race is due to heat up at the start of January and the Rams sit in the final playoff position, just three points ahead of the ninth-place UOIT Ridgebacks.
The Rams have not made the playoffs since 2015.
Ailish Forfar (Sharon, Ont.) and Kryshanda Green (Brampton, Ont.) lead the Rams with ten points each through the first half of the season. The team closed out their first semester campaign with a 3-2 overtime loss to the first-place Queen’s Gaels on November 26th, 2017.
Looking ahead, the Rams will face two of the OUA’s bottom teams this weekend in their first matchups of 2018. The team will play their first home game of the year on Saturday, January 6th against the Windsor Lancers. The Lancers have a 1-1-10-2 record on the season so far, claiming their only regulation win of the season against Laurier in a 4-0 home victory. Ryerson has not faced Windsor yet this season, but had a 0-2 record against the team in 2016-17. The game will take place at 2:15 pm on Saturday.
The next day, the Rams will travel to Waterloo will take on the Laurier Golden Hawks. Ryerson took a 1-0 shootout victory over Laurier earlier in 2017, and the Golden Hawks hold a 1-1-8-1 record on the season. The team sits last in the OUA with only six points and will be looking to improve their record against the Rams on Sunday. The game will take place at 7:00 pm at the Sun Life Financial Arena in Waterloo.
