Rams back in action with two games this week
TORONTO - After a stretch of three games in six days and a long road trip it’s been a quite week for the Ryerson Rams women’s hockey team.
Ryerson kicks off their week with a Thursday morning tilt against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, which has been selected as the OUA's Marquee Matchup this week, and will wrap up the two-game stretch against the Brock Badgers on Saturday.
After opening the season 2-0 the Varsity Blues come into the Thursday morning game having lost their previous two games. For the Varsity Blues it was their offence leading the charge in their first two games – scoring eight goals – but they have followed that by scoring just half of that over their next two.
Toronto has struggled early in games this season; over their first four games they have given up all seven of their goals in the first period. However, that means they have given up zero goals over the nine (eight regulation, one overtime) other periods they have played.
Ryerson was very slow out of the gate in their last game so look for them to try and turn that around and jump on Toronto early.
At this point Brock has only played three games, posting a 2-1 record with five goals for and four goals against. In both of their wins they have held their opponents to either one or zero goals.
If Ryerson is able to get a few goals, this early season Brock offence might not be able to match that.
Ryerson through four games is averaging just over three goals a game - if they keep that up it’ll give them a good chance in both games this week.
The Rams currently sit one point ahead of Toronto, and two points ahead of Brock. It is early in the season but every point matters in what could be a tight OUA division.
The Rams play at 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning, and 2:15 Saturday afternoon at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
