Rams face new challenge in first back-to-back weekend
TORONTO - This weekend, the undefeated Ryerson Rams will face a new challenge.
The Rams extended their undefeated streak to open the season last week with a 3-0 victory over the U of T Varsity Blues. The victory saw the team improve to a 5-0 record in their second consecutive shutout match, boasting nine consecutive sets won. However, this weekend will see the Rams face their first back-to-back matchups of the year as they try to keep their stellar start intact.
“We have a tough weekend…it’s going to be our first back-to-back of the season,” coach Adam Simac said, emphasizing the importance of preparing those newer and younger players that have been seeing increased action in recent games. “When they are at such a young age, things aren’t automatic yet. Certain small things that actually make a huge difference.”
Recently, the team has been rotating between a more experienced senior core and new recruits and transfers. This weekend, the team will have to utilize the best of both worlds in order to keep themselves fresh on the court and ready to face the Guelph Gryphons and Waterloo Warriors.
Both opponents have seen more action than the Rams this season, but neither have seen the levels of success that they have enjoyed. A win over the Nipissing Lakers sees the Gryphons break even with a 4-4 record, while the Warriors fell to the York Lions and see their record stand at 3-5.
With both teams having fallen to teams this Rams squad have defeated this season, expectations will be high, but success will be dependent on the extra preparation for this busy weekend.
The Ryerson Rams will face the Gryphons on Friday, November 24th at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre. The following night, the Rams will head from Guelph to Waterloo to face the Warriors at the Physical Activities Complex. Both games begin at 8:00 p.m.
