Rams announce Omari Young as second recruit
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams men’s volleyball team announced today that Omari Young has committed to the Rams and will be joining the team at the start of the 2018-19 season.
Young, a middle from Toronto, Ont., played for his high school senior team at York Mills Collegiate Institute for the last two seasons. On the club level, he has also played for the Galaxy Ghosts and PVB High Performance.
“We are very excited to have Omari join our program,” says head coach Matt Harris. “Omari will be coming to us from just up the street, having played for his very successful York Mills collegiate team. Omari also plays for a strong local club here in Toronto.”
Young says the highlight of his volleyball career thus far was earning the bronze medal at the 2016 OFSAA championships. Other prior accomplishments include capturing bronze at both the provincial and national U16 tournaments.
Young self-describes as a “very competitive athlete who is a quick learner and has the ability to pick up new traits and talents to fill my role on the team to my best ability.”
"What I see in Omari is a tremendous young man that will have an immediate impact on our Ryerson community,” continues Harris. “He is still new to volleyball and is constantly learning and improving. I look forward to coaching Omari and being around him on his journey here at Ryerson.”
Young will be entering Ryerson’s Business Management program in September 2018.
“After visiting the Ted Rogers School of Management and talking to some of the first year [students], I strongly believe Ryerson would meet my academic needs,” says Young. “Athletics-wise, I really like the idea of a Toronto-centric team with the ability to compete for a championship. I am very excited about the growth and opportunities that Ryerson presents me with.”
