'18-19 recruit Omari Young named to Team Ontario

By Jessica Pincente

TORONTO - Ryerson’s incoming middle blocker, Omari Young, has been named to Team Ontario Black and will compete in the Canada Cup from July 19 to July 22, 2018.

The final rosters for the nation-wide tournament were announced by Ontario Volleyball on July 17.  The team is set to fly to Richmond, B.C., to compete in the Canada Cup on July 18.

Young will be competing with Team Ontario for the first time in his career.

A Toronto, Ont. native, Young’s commitment to Ryerson was announced at the end of May. He is set to take to the court for the Rams in September.

Team Ontario Black will open up the Canada Cup tournament on Thursday, July 19 at 11:00 am against Quebec.

Ontario’s 17U indoor squad recently underwent a name change, now known as Team Ontario Black. The shift in the names is in accordance with Ontario Volleyball's Long Term Athlete Development plan to “give consideration to the late-developing nature of volleyball athletes and to accompany their development within High Performance programming.”

More information about the tournament, including how to watch the games and keep up with the scores, can be found on Volleyball Canada’s website.
