TORONTO — The Ryerson Rams men's volleyball team will not be dipping their toes in the water to start 2017-18. Instead they will be diving into the new OUA season head first, travelling to Hamilton to take on the reigning champion McMaster Marauders.
Armed with several new recruits and the promotion of former Canadian national team member Adam Simac to assistant coach, the Rams will be looking to return to the OUA Gold Medal Game and the National Championship, which will be held in the very gymnasium where the Rams start their season.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2017 | RAMS AT MCMASTER — REGULAR SEASON OPENER
There could be no bigger test for the Ryerson Rams than opening their season against the five-time reigning OUA champion, McMaster Marauders. For anyone familiar with OUA men's volleyball, there is no hiding the sheer dominance of the Marauders. In 2016-17 the men in maroon did not drop a single set in OUA competition, en route to their fifth consecutive Forsyth Trophy — tying Toronto's record for longest-reign over OUA men's volleyball. For Ryerson, there are two ways to look at this game. The first is to fear their opponents, and the second option is to use this game to evaluate where they are against the best competition in the province, and to see if they can pick up a massive, early season win. Ask any single person on the roster and the answer will unanimously be the latter.
SUNDAY, NOVMBER 12, 2017 | RAMS VS. TRENT, 3:00 PM EST — HOME OPENER
After three games on the road, Ryerson will finally return home to Coca-Cola Court on November 12, for their first regular season game of the year at home. The Rams were 7-and-5 at home last season and will being facing a Trent Excalibur team for the second and final time for the year, in just their fourth conference game. Last season, the Rams swept their season series with the newest team in OUA men's volleyball, 3-1 and 3-1. Ryerson faces off against Trent in Peterborough the week prior at 5:00 PM at the Trent Athletics Centre.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 2017 | RAMS AT GUELPH — PLAYOFF REVENGE
Following their second-ever OUA silver medal in 2015-16 and the program's first trip to the U SPORTS National Championship, Ryerson's quest for their second-straight berth was cut short by the Guelph Gryphons in the OUA Bronze Medal Game, where the Rams fell in five sets (20-25, 25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 13-15). Prior to that meeting, Ryerson seemingly had Guelph's number in regular season play, taking their single regular season meeting in a three-set sweep on February 17, 2017. This time when Ryerson travels to Guelph, it will be their first time in the new Guelph Gryphons Athletic Centre, with a desire to avenge their loss in the front of their minds.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 20, 2018 | RAMS VS. YORK — BEST IN THE CITY, BEST IN THE DIVISION?
Last season's OUA East champions were the York Lions, and they did so by winning ten straight games to close out the regular season. Ryerson split their season series with York, with each team winning their road game. In men's volleyball the Lions are the Rams' main Toronto city rivals, and this meeting on Coca-Cola Court should bring all the intensity that fans of Ryerson volleyball are accustomed to seeing in a rivalry game. With this being the last of their two meetings on the season, this game could decide the winner of the OUA East division, which could translate to avoiding a playoff matchup with McMaster until the OUA Championship game.

All games listed will be played at 8 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
