Rams claim title at Queen's Invitational
KINGSTON, Ont. - The Ryerson Rams men's volleyball team opened their season with a positive result, winning three matches to claim the Queen's Invitational tournament this past weekend.
The Rams began their preseason with a 3-1 (38-40, 25-20, 25-23, 25-23) win over the host Queen's Gaels. Lucas Coleman led the way with 22 kills while Brendan Kewin added 16 and Simon Davis-Power had 12. Setter Adam Anagnostopoulos finished with 51 assists on the Rams' 63 kills.
On Saturday Ryerson defeated the Waterloo Warriors 3-0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-16) to set up a showdown with the Manitoba Bisons on Sunday in a match between two unbeaten teams over the weekend.
Ryerson emerged victorious with a 3-1 victory (25-19, 26-24, 22-25, 25-23) over Manitoba, a team who finished fifth at the national tournament last season and was ranked as high as No. 2 in the country.
Coleman led the attack again with 23 kills and added a game-high 12 digs, while Simon Davis-Power had 15 kills and Brendan Kewin added 12.
Coleman was named the MVP of the tournament while Kewin and Anagnostopoulos were voted tournament all-stars.
The Rams will open their OUA regular season on October 27 when they visit the defending OUA champion McMaster Marauders.
