Rams face one last push to close out regular season
TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams began the 2017-18 men’s volleyball season on a high note, and they hope to end the regular season in kind.
Despite a tough loss against the Queen’s Gaels this past weekend, the Rams turn their attention to closing the season by adding to their win column and pushing headstrong into the playoffs. To do so, they must face the RMC Paladins at home and the Nipissing Lakers on the road.
The Rams’ final home game of the season will be their second matchup with the RMC Paladins in two weeks. The first contest saw the Rams sweep the Paladins in three sets, with enthusiastic and effective Sean Shultis putting up his best career numbers. The Rams will rely on that young contingent of the team to step up to the plate as the team sends off its longtime seniors.
This season has seen the Rams come down to many last-play, five-set games, and their previous victory over the Nipissing Lakers was no exception. While the Rams ultimately took the victory at home, the Lakers, knowing that they are able to contend with the OUA East standings leaders (tied with York Lions), will have the added advantage of playing before a home crowd - an area where the Rams already faltered against the Gaels. If the Rams are to head into the playoffs ready to play, a road win against a tough Nipissing opposition is crucial.
The Ryerson Rams host the RMC Paladins Friday, Feb. 23 at 8:00 p.m. ET at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, before taking one last road trip to face the Nipissing Lakers at the Robert J. Surtees Student Athletic Centre on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2:00 p.m. ET. Rams fans can see the team one more time at home in the regular season to celebrate our outgoing stars on Senior’s Night.
