Last call at the MAC for Forsyth Cup quarter-final
TORONTO - The OUA Forsyth Cup quarter-final marks the return of the MAC.
The Ryerson Rams will take to the floor at the MAC on Saturday night, hoping to keep the team’s push for OUA dominance and a national championship berth alive. Entering a playoff in a deadlock for first in the OUA East with the York Lions, the Rams will have to shake off some late-season disappointment in order to band together and prove themselves.
While the Rams have endured a season of ups and downs, from opening the season topping defending champion McMaster Marauders to a major upset loss to the Brock Badgers, unless they get the ball rolling this weekend, everything will be lost.
“We need to start the right way and we need to continue playing the right way,” Rams head coach Adam Simac said after a recent 3-1 victory over the RMC Paladins. “The scary thing about playoffs - especially with this quarter-final - is you have a bad day and that’s your season right there.”
Ryerson (12-6) will play host to the Waterloo Warriors (9-8), who finished the regular season sitting fourth in the OUA West. Despite finishing the season six points behind the Rams, the Warriors handed Ryerson their first loss of the season in the very last game of the fall semester. Now, the Rams have an opportunity to overcome the Warriors to regain their confidence just in time to compete for an OUA title.
As many of the major senior figures on the team, including Brendan Kewin (Milton, Ont.), Adam Anagnostopoulos (Waterloo, Ont.), Lucas Coleman (Brooklin, Ont.), and Brett Whitley (Brighton, Ont.), suit up for what could be their final game in the blue and gold, much more than pride and playoffs will be on the line.
The Ryerson Rams host the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, March 3rd, 6 p.m. ET at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. Rams fans are encouraged to come out and support the team as they play what could be one of the last Rams home games of the 2017-18 season.
